"40 years of diplomatic relations" joint stamp with Oman, on cover from Russia

Merci beaucoup Youri !
Diplomatic relations between the USSR and the Sultanate of Oman were established on September 26, 1985 (Oman was a Western ally during the Cold War).
Since a landmark OPEC agreement, Oman and Russia have been active allies in the Persian Gulf. In 2022, bilateral trade between Russia and Oman increased by 46%, as both countries sought to strengthen their economic ties.
On December 10, 2025, the postal administrations of both countries issued a joint stamp to commemorate the 40th anniversary of these diplomatic relations. The stamp features a manuscript by the Omani scholar Ibn al-Wardī, a document of great historical value that testifies to the global organization of the order and close ties between Oman and Russia.
The Russian version of this joint stamp (80 RUB, print run: 64,000, design: M. Bodrova), printed in a sheetlet of 8 stamps + 1 central label, was used on the right side of the cover below, sent on December 26, 2025, from Saint Petersburg. Thank you very much, Yuri!

The manuscript Kharīdat al-ʻAjāʼib wa Farīdat al-Gharāʼib, or "The Pearl of wonders and the Uniqueness of strange things" (circa 1419), by the great Omani scientist and geographer Umar ibn Muẓaffar al-Wardī, is a rare work of great historical value.
He describes different countries, seas, oceans, rivers, flora and fauna and outlines the relative positions of kingdoms separated by seas and deserts, discussing the peoples who inhabited these areas.
Ibn al-Wardī pays attention only to those countries, cities and rivers that were either known to his contemporaries or believed to be of particular value for them. He begins with countries in the west, then moves eastward, followed by the south, and finally the north, referring to the Romans, Franks, and others, and also mentioning Slavs.
He presents the information in the manuscrip in an encyclopaedic style that blends geographical details with a literary narrative. The information he includes is remarkably accurate and aligns well with other prominent scholarly sources of his time.
In addition, Ibn al-Wardī designed a detailed map that serves as an integral companion to the text of the manuscript. The manuscript itself contains explanations of the map's contents wherein Ibn al-Wardī organises countries and landmarks according to their regions. In so doing, he portrays the shape of the Earth as it was understood in his time: in the form of a circle.
The stamp reproduces a map from this manuscript, a 19th-century copy held at the National Museum of Oman.

"Arab League Summit 2022" joint stamp on cover from Oman

During the 41st session of the Permanent Arab Postal Committee, held in Algiers on June 8 and 9, 2022, Algeria's proposal for the issue of a unified Arab postage stamp for 2022 was approved, with the theme of 31st Arab League Summit to be held in Algiers on November 1-2, 2022.
The Algerian Post put this stamp into circulation on August 22, 2022 (general sale), after the postal administration of Egypt and before Oman, Djibouti, Tunisia, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Palestine, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.
As a reminder, the League of Arab States (or Arab League) was created in 1945 following the independence of the Arab states, which were under foreign colonization and is currently composed of 22 member states, located in North Africa and the Middle East mainly (+ Somalia, Djibouti and Comoros).

The Omani version of this joint stamp (0.40 OMR) is present on the right on the official FDC above (with postmark of October 20, 2022), sent on May 15, 2025, from Muscat. Thank you very much, Hussain!
I quite like this round stamp featuring the Arab League emblem with a map and the flag of Algeria in its lower part.
Arab League (and Arab Postal Union) member countries had the freedom to issue their own stamps between August 3, 2022, the annual Arab Postal Day, and November 2, 2022, the closing date of this Arab League Summit.
The Sultanate of Oman has been a member of the Arab League since September 29, 1971.
Hussain used two other identical stamps (0.05 OMR each) as part of a sheetlet (11 different stamps) issued on March 20, 2023, dedicated to the ancient Omani alphabet (used here to write "Muscat"). Numerous inscriptions with Semitic characteristics have been discovered in the Sultanate of Oman, the oldest dating back to 3000 BC.

"Celebrating Friendship with Oman - Folk Dances" joint s/s on cover from India

India and Oman are bound by geography, history, and culture and enjoy warm and cordial relations. While relations between India and Oman can be traced back to 5000 years, diplomatic relations were established in 1955 and upgraded to a strategic partnership in 2008. Since then, political engagement between the two countries has taken on a more strategic dimension.
More than 500,000 Indians work in Oman, and many Omani students complete their studies in India. The two countries maintain particularly close ties in terms of defense cooperation.
To commemorate this long-standing friendship and the cultural similarities between India and Oman, India Post and Oman Post released, on December 15, 2023, a beautiful joint souvenir sheet (two stamps) depicting folk dances from both countries.
This souvenir sheet was designed by Soni Budhia, an Indian artist who has lived in Oman for 12 years, and features iconic architectural symbols of both countries in the background: the Hawa Mahal (late 18th century), an iconic landmark of the city of Jaipur, and the Nizwa Fort (17th century), one of Oman's most famous monuments.

The Indian version of this souvenir sheet (2 x 25 INR, print run: 111,500) was used on the above cover sent on June 16, 2025 from the city of Margao (state of Goa). Thank you very much Elton!
Dandiya Raas (stamp on the left) is a popular folk dance from the state of Gujarat. It is a rhythmic dance performed by young people moving around in a circle in measured steps to the beat of dandiya or sticks that they carry in their hands. The rhythm is maintained by the clacking sticks, with clapping hands keeping pace.
Dandiya Raas is performed with traditional songs and folk tunes to the beat of the dhol and the wind instrument Shehnai. It is associated with the autumn festival of Navaratri.
Al Razha (stamp on the right), an ancient folk art widespread throughout the Sultanate of Oman, is a key element of Omani artistic heritage. It involves a choreographed duel between two combatants, called Zavenin, armed with swords and shields, accompanied by passages recited by great poets. This magnificent spectacle is considered an artistic manifestation of celebration and popular happiness. It was primarily used as a call to arms, a declaration of victory or was a from of traditional celebration and entertainment during holidays and gatherings. Main styles of this traditional artform include Himbel, Qusafi and Lal Al Oud.

"Opening of the Rub-el-Khali Highway" joint stamp with Saudi Arabia, on FDC from Oman

On December 28, 2023, the postal administrations of the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia issued a joint stamp to mark the inauguration of the Rub el Khali highway linking the two countries.
Each country printed this stamp in a sheetlet of six, with Oman also issuing a souvenir sheet.
The Omani version of this stamp (0.30 OMR) appears on the official FDC below, sent on May 15, 2025, from Muscat. Thank you very much, Hussain!
To note the First Day cancellation including the emblems of both countries: a Kanjar dagger superimposed on two crossed swords (Oman) and two scimitars placed under a palm tree (Saudi Arabia).
The stamp shows the leaders of the two countries, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, at the inauguration of this highway, with various emblems of the two countries in the background, in particular the famous Kingdom Center tower in Riyadh, as well as economic symbols such as a refinery or an oil well.

This 725-km desert highway begins at the Ibri roundabout (on the Omani side) in Adhahirah Governorate and ends at the Rub-el-Khali checkpoint, a distance of 161 kilometers. On the Saudi side, it begins at the Al Bat'ha junction and ends at the border checkpoint, a 564-kilometer stretch.
Rub-el-Khali (literally, the "Empty Quarter") refers to one of the largest deserts and the largest uninterrupted expanse of sand in the world, occupying approximately 650,000 km2 in the southernmost third of the Arabian Peninsula.
The Rub-el-Khali highway is of considerable economic importance to both countries. It contributes to the expansion of trade and tourism. It allows Omani exports to reach international markets via the Red Sea and also provides direct access for Saudi exports to the rest of the world via the Arabian and Oman Seas.
Hussain used a second stamp (0.30 OMR), part of a souvenir sheet (4 stamps) issued on July 21, 2022, dedicated to different types of Omani dates, the "Zabad" variety here. About ten varieties of dates are cultivated in Oman and are among the main agricultural exports (along with bananas, between 10,000 and 15,000 tons of dates each year), mainly to the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and India.

"Muscat Street - 40 years of diplomatic relations" joint stamp with Singapore, on FDC from Oman

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Singapore and the Sultanate of Oman were officially established on February 21, 1985, marking the beginning of a strong and collaborative partnership between the two countries.
To commemorate and celebrate the 40th anniversary of these diplomatic relations, SingPost and Oman Post have partnered to release a joint stamp and souvenir sheet on February 21, 2025, featuring Singapore's famous Muscat Street, reflecting both Singapore's heritage and its ties to Oman, blending Omani history, culture, and art.
The two nations share common goals and visions for the future, including their commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Oman is now Singapore's 7th largest trading partner.
The two nations also share a rich maritime history, symbolized by the ship "Jewel of Muscat," donated by Sultan Qaboos bin Said to Singapore in 2010. The ship, which embarked on a historic voyage from Oman to Singapore, is now on display at the Maritime Museum on Sentosa Island, an enduring symbol of cultural exchange between the two countries.

The Omani version of this joint stamp (0.50 OMR), designed by Ivory Seah, is present on the official FDC above, sent on May 15, 2025 from Muscat. Thank you very much, Hussain!
Muscat Street was named after the capital of Oman in 1909. In 2012, the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore and the Muscat Municipality collaborated to redevelop Muscat Street in a landmark project highlighting the close historical ties between Singapore and Oman.
In line with its history as a bustling hub for Singapore's early traders, Muscat Street today is an attraction for residents and tourists. It is located between North Bridge Road and Baghdad Street, and leads to Singapore's oldest mosque "Masjid Sultan".
At both ends of Muscat Street are 8-metre-high granite arches displaying ornate Omani carvings. Murals painted by Omani artists and mosaic artwork produced with tiles imported from Oman line either side of the street. Muscat Street melds Omani history, culture, and art and reflects Singapore’s heritage and connection with Oman.

"Connections and shared cultural heritage" joint stamp set with Morocco, on FDC from Oman

Merci beaucoup Hussain !
On February 13, 2024, the Moroccan Post "Barid Al-Maghrib" and the Oman Post put into circulation in Muscat, on the sidelines of the Arab Postal Leaders Forum, a joint issue (2 stamps + 1 souvenir sheet) celebrating the deep fraternal ties and common cultural history that unite the two friendly countries, the Kingdom of Morocco and the Sultanate of Oman.
With its spectacular design, this issue embodies the essential common elements to the Kingdom of Morocco and the Sultanate of Oman. The idea of this issue also revolves around highlighting the first place where the sun rises in the Arab world in the Sultanate of Oman, Ras Al Hadd, and the last place where the sun sets in the Kingdom of Morocco, in Guerguerat.
The Omani version of this joint series (two se-tenant stamps, 0.50 OMR each), printed in a single sheetlet of 8 stamps (4 pairs) is present on the official FDC below. Thank you very much Hussain!

This joint issue highlights the most important cultural monuments of the two countries. These include the main gate of the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat, the historic Sohar ship, the sunrise view at Ras Al Hadd (a village considered the easternmost point of Oman), as well as as the ancient castle of Sohar and the Royal Opera House in Muscat, on the stamp on the right.
The other stamp features the sunset on the westernmost point of Morocco, the locality of Guerguerat, located in the extreme southwest of Western Sahara (territory under Moroccan control), at the border with Mauritania. This stamp shows in particular the Al-Khair mosque inaugurated in March 2023.

"50 years of diplomatic relations with Switzerland" stamp set on FDCs from Oman

On the occasion of a visit by the then President of the Swiss Confederation (Alain Berset) to the Sultanate of Oman, a joint series (two stamps) was to be issued in November 2023 between the two countries to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
It appears that the Swiss Post was informed too late of this joint series project by the Omani Post, and ultimately, Oman unilaterally put this series into circulation on November 30, 2023.
Switzerland and Oman indeed established diplomatic relations in 1973. In November 2014, the Swiss Embassy in Oman was opened, and since 2018, Omani interests in Switzerland have been represented by an Embassy in Bern and a consulate general in Geneva.
Switzerland and the Sultanate of Oman have intensified their relations in recent years. Relations focus on peace and security policy, economics, and sustainable development. A special emphasis is placed on promoting stability in the region.

Oman Post has issued these two stamps (0.25 OMR each) in a single sheetlet of eight stamps (four of each).
These two stamps are present on the official FDC above, with cancellation including the official logo for this 50th anniversary. Thank you very much, Hussain!
To note the incorrect mention "Republic of Switzerland" on the postmark and the envelope (as well as on the top margin of the sheetlet), instead of "Swiss Confederation".
For history, the Helvetic Republic was the official name given on April 12, 1798, to the Confederation of Swiss Cantons, which remained a unitary republic until March 10, 1803.
These two stamps illustrate two monuments, true architectural marvels built in the 17th century, reflecting the richness and natural beauty of their common heritage: the historic fort of Jabreen, in Wilayat Bahla (Oman) and Waldegg Castle (Switzerland).

These two stamps also appear on the other official FDC above, this time featuring an illustration of Waldegg Castle.
Waldegg Castle, located near Solothurn in the municipality of Feldbrunnen-Sankt Niklaus, was built from 1682 to 1686 as a summer residence for the mayor of Solothurn.
Its architecture is inspired by a typical Solothurn building type, the turret house, which was very popular in the 17th century, while incorporating elements of French and Italian Baroque. Its garden façade, over 70 meters wide, impresses visitors.
In 1975, it became the headquarters of the Center for Intercultural Dialogue, an organization that promotes understanding between the different languages and cultures of Switzerland.
Jabreen Castle is a fortified residential palace located in the Sultanate of Oman, in an oasis in the Ad-Dakhiliyah region, 20 km from Bahla and 150 km from the capital, Muscat. It was built in 1670 and underwent extensive restoration work in the early 1980s.
The castle, surrounded by thick ramparts, is a jewel of local architecture, characterized by its simplicity of form. The three-story building, several of whose walls are painted with astrological motifs, served as a residence for the sultans and imams of Muscat.

"Muscat Street - 40 years of diplomatic relations" joint s/s with Oman, on FDC from Singapore

The Singapore version of this souvenir sheet ($2.00), designed by Ivory Seah, is featured on the official FDC above. Thank you very much, Terence!

"Zanzibar - Cultural and historical ties" joint stamp with Oman, on cover from Tanzania

On October 9, 2022, the postal administrations of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Sultanate of Oman put into circulation an interesting joint stamp illustrating the historical and cultural ties between the two countries and in particular the architectural heritage of the Sultans of Muscat and Oman in Zanzibar.
This joint stamp was printed in both countries in a sheetlet of 8 stamps + 1 large label as well as in a souvenir sheet.
A stamp (3000 TZS) + large label of the sheetlet were used on the cover below sent on May 18, 2024 from the city of Arusha. Thank you very much Bhavin!
As a reminder or information, this Sultanate of Muscat and Oman (1856-1970) which, at the time of its creation, extended from the southeast of Arabia (where the current Sultanate of Oman is located) and along the eastern coasts of Africa, from current Somalia to Zanzibar, was the center of a real colonial empire.

This stamp (and large label) depicts the Zanzibar coastline with some government buildings facing the shore, including the Zanzibar Corniche and the "House of Wonders", the largest and tallest building in Stone Town (the old part of Zanzibar), which is one of six palaces built by Barghash bin Said (1837-1888), the second Sultan of Zanzibar.
This House of Wonders, a vast ceremonial palace built in 1883, owes its nickname to the fact that it was the first building on the island to install lighting and an electric elevator.
In addition to the House of Wonders, Tanzania is home to several magnificent structures that testify to the favorable influence of Oman, which contributed to the development of small villages into renowned cities such as Zanzibar.
The Stone Town of Zanzibar has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000.

"Joint issue with the Sultanate of Oman" souvenir sheet on FDC from Morocco

Merci beaucoup Pierre !
This joint souvenir sheet (unknown author and print run), composed of two stamps, was used on the cover below, with First Day cancellation of February 14, 2024 (instead of February 13, 2024?), sent on April 19, 2024 from the city of Meknes. Thank you very much Pierre!

This joint issue highlights the most important cultural monuments of the two countries. These include the main gate of the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat, the historic Sohar ship, the sunrise view at Ras Al Hadd (a village considered the easternmost point of Oman), as well as as the ancient castle of Sohar and the Royal Opera House in Muscat, on the stamp on the right (4.10 dirhams).
The other stamp (9.80 dirhams) evokes the sunset on the westernmost point of Morocco, the locality of Guerguerat, located in the extreme southwest of Western Sahara (territory under Moroccan control), at the border with Mauritania. This stamp shows in particular the Al-Khair mosque inaugurated in March 2023.

These two stamps have also been printed in the same sheetlet made up of 8 stamps (4 pairs) such as the pair used on the official numbered (No. 1141) FDC above.
The flags of the two countries are represented on the envelope as well as the silhouettes of emblematic monuments: Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Al-Riyam Park and its giant ornamental incense burner, the Hassan Tower and the Mohammed V mausoleum in Rabat.

Festival of dates and diplomatic relations with India on card from the Sultanate of Oman

A big thank you Terence for this interesting postcard sent on December 4, 2016 from Ruwi, one of the main business districts of Muscat, the capital of the Sultanate of Oman !
To note these two bicolor postmarks (blue with the date applied with a red ink).
The stamp on the left (100 Baisa), printed in sheetlet of 4 stamps, was issued on October 23, 2016 on the occasion of the Fourth Festival of Omani dates, organized from 23 to 31 October 2016 in the souq of Nizwa under the patronage of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
Date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) is one of the most important crops in Oman, the date being appreciated by Omanis for its social, religious and agricultural value.

The other stamp above on the right (200 Baisa), issued on December 31, 2015, commemorates the 60 years of diplomatic relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of India.
That stamp (print run : 60,000, design : Jumaa Al Harthi) was printed by Cartor in a minisheet composed of 6 stamps and 3 central labels.
The flags of the two countries and their respective emblems, the Lion Capital of Ashoka for India and a khanjar inside its sheath, superimposed upon two crossed swords, for Oman, are represented on that stamp, as well as two of the most famous monuments in each country : the Taj Mahal in Āgrā and the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, inaugurated in 2001 in Muscat.
The two countries, separated by the Arabian Sea, have maintained strong trade relations since at least the 3rd century BC, especially with the regions of Gujarat and the west coast of India.
More than 500,000 Indians are working in Oman and many Omani students are finishing their studies in India. The two countries have in particular close relations in terms of defence co-operation.

Journée de la Poste Arabe 2012 à Oman

Arab Postal Day 2012 on Oman's stamps

Further to my previous today's post dedicated to a letter received from Morocco, I was also lucky to receive a cover with that same "Arab Postal Day" stamp issued on August 3, 2012 by the Post of the Sultanate of Oman this time.
Thank you very much Faisal for this nice letter mailed on November 7th 2012 from Muscat, franked with four of these stamps :-)
This is actually the bottom part of a sheet (consisting of 10 stamps) with the words "Arab Postal Day" in English and Arabic, the emblem of the Arab League and the name of the printer "Cartor Security Printing" in the margins.

As a reminder, following a competition organized by the Arab Permanent Postal Commission (APPC), the illustration reproduced on this joint stamp is a design by Mohamed Nidham from Oman. It shows a map of the 22 countries of the Arab League and a carrier pigeon as well as the emblem of the Arab League.
To note that among the 11 countries (out of 22 !) having participated in this joint issue (Morocco, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Palestine and Sudan), only Oman, Bahrain and Palestine have also included their national flag on that stamp.
The carrier pigeon and the emblem of the Arab League have been printed with a slight embossment on this Oman's stamp, I do not know if this is also the case for other stamps in this joint series ?
Finally, to note the presence on that stamp of the two years 2012 and 1433 respectively referring to the two Gregorian and Islamic calendars.

Sultan Qaboos on my first Omani cover

With November 18th, the National Day commemorating the birthday of Sultan Qaboos ibn Said Al Said, the Sultanate of Oman also celebrates each year on July 23rd, the glorious and blessed "Renaissance Day"...
July 23rd is refering to the coming to power of the present sultan, Qaboos ibn Said, 40 years ago, on July 23, 1970, after overthrowing his father in a palace coup...
Descendant of the Al Bu Sa'id dynasty in power since 1744, Qaboos ibn Said has profoundly pacified and modernized his country (Oil, tourism), today a rare example of stability in this Middle East region.

The postal administration of the Sultanate of Oman has commemorated this "Renaissance Day" by issuing (probably on July 23, 2010) the souvenir sheet appearing on the cover above, mailed on November 24, 2010 from the CPO (Central Post Office) No. 111, probably located in Muscat, the capital.
Thank you very much Faisal :-)
Despite some democratic progress, Sultan Qaboos is regarded as an absolute monarch, also supreme commander of the Omani armed forces.
The five stamps (50 Baisas each, with embossed printing) of this souvenir sheet above are featuring Sultan Qaboos in various military uniforms (Royal Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, Royal Oman Police...).

Faisal has also used an other stamp on his letter above to the left (200 Baisas). This stamp, issued on November 15, 2009, announced the 15th GCC ("Gulf Cooperation Council") Stamp Exhibition held in Muscat from 15 to 19 November 2009.
This stamp was in fact issued in a sheet of nine stamps (see above), all different, including also six coupons depicting the postal logos and flags of the countries part of this regional economic organization called Gulf Cooperation Council (Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar).
The stamp on the cover above is thus the one located in the middle of the upper band of this sheet with the logo of the GCC in the top margin.
To note that a self-adhesive version (booklet of twelve 50 Baisas-stamps) of this stamp was also issued the same day.
