Le 2 avril 1913, le théâtre des Champs-Élysées était officiellement inauguré à Paris avec en particulier un concert de musique classique française (Debussy, Saint-Saëns, Vincent d'Indy...).
100 ans après, ce lieu est toujours un des principaux établissements culturels (musique, opéra, danse) de la capitale française.
Pour commémorer cet anniversaire, la poste française a mis en vente générale le 9 avril 2013, un splendide timbre (tarif domestique pour une lettre entre 20 et 50g) évoquant à la fois la façade et la salle principale de ce théâtre.
J'ai eu la chance de recevoir les 3 FDC ci-dessous (merci beaucoup à Roland et Joël !) concernant ce timbre !
On April 2, 1913, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées was officially inaugurated in Paris with a concert of French classical music (Debussy, Saint-Saëns, Vincent d'Indy...).
100 years later, this place is always one of the major cultural institutions (music, opera, dance) of the French capital.
To commemorate this anniversary, the French Post has issued in general sale on April 9, 2013, a beautiful stamp (domestic postal rate for a 20g to 50g letter) featuring both the front and the main hall of this theater.
I was lucky enough to receive the three FDC below (thank you very much Roland and Joël !) regarding that stamp !
Créé et gravé par Elsa Catelin (qui a également conçu le TAD du 8 avril 2013), ce timbre (tirage : 1700000) a la particularité d'avoir été imprimé avec une encre taille-douce dorée pour mettre en valeur la coupole ou les fenêtres de ce théâtre.
Le résultat est juste magnifique, sans doute un des plus jolis timbres émis en France en 2013 !
Cet édifice a donc été construit en 1913 dans un style Art Déco et classique et fut le 1er théâtre parisien entièrement construit en béton armé (architectes : Henry Van de Velde puis Auguste Perret).
De nombreux artistes ont également contribué à la décoration de ce lieu : Antoine Bourdelle (bas-reliefs en marbre blanc de la façade, fresques et bronze à l'intérieur), Maurice Denis (coupole) ou les peintres Edouard Vuillard et Jacqueline Marval et le cristallier René Lalique.
Created and engraved by Elsa Catelin (who also designed the FDC postmark of April 8th 2013), that stamp (print run : 1.7 million) has the particularity of having been printed with an intaglio gold ink to highlight the dome as well as the windows of this theater.
The result is just amazing, probably one of the most beautiful stamps issued in France in 2013 !
This building has indeed been built in 1913 in Art Deco and classic styles and was the first Parisian theater entirely built from reinforced concrete (by architects Henry van de Velde and Auguste Perret).
Many artists have also contributed to the decoration of this building : Antoine Bourdelle (bas-reliefs in white marble on the facade, murals and bronze inside), Maurice Denis (dome) or painters Edouard Vuillard and Jacqueline Marval and cristallier René Lalique.
A noter également que ce théâtre, qui a accueilli les plus grands artistes du 20ème siècle (Pierre Boulez, Maria Callas, Luciano Pavarotti, Rostropovitch...) et les plus grands ballets, fut un des premiers édifices du patrimoine contemporain à être classé monument historique il y a 60 ans exactement.
To note also that this theater, that hosted the greatest artists of the 20th century (Pierre Boulez, Maria Callas, Luciano Pavarotti, Rostropovich...) and the greatest ballets, was one of the first contempory buildings to be listed in France as a national heritage site 60 years ago exactly.
