La série "Personnalités" de l'année 2004 en Moldavie consacrait un homme et une femme bien différents !
Galanterie oblige, je vous présente tout d'abord Natalia Gheorghiu (1914-2001), femme médecin et chirurgien. C'est elle qui figure sur le timbre à 0,40 L, avec une équipe de chirurgiens à l'arrière plan.
Elle est tout simplement à l'origine du développement de la chirurgie en Moldavie pendant le siècle dernier !
De nombreuses rues du pays portent son nom et plus logiquement le Centre National Scientifique de chirurgie pédiatrique.
The "Personalities" stamp issue of year 2004 in Moldavia dedicated a very different man and woman!
Gallantry obliges, I present you first of all Natalia Gheorghiu (1914-2001), doctor and surgeon. It is her who appears on the 0,40 L stamp, with a team of surgeons in the background.
She is simply at the origin of the development of the surgery in Moldavia during the last century! Numerous streets of the country wear its name and more logically the Scientifical-Practical National Center of Pediatric surgery.

Comme mentionné sur le cachet "1er jour", le 1er jour d'émission a eu lieu le 30 avril 2004. La même année (29 novembre), le président Moldave Vladimir Voronin a inauguré un buste en son honneur à Chisinau :
As mentioned on the postmark, the first day of issue took place on April 30th, 2004. The same year (in November 29th), the Moldavian president Vladimir Voronin inaugurated a bust in his honor in Chisinau :
Le 2ème personnage est plus ancien : le timbre à 1,50 L représente le Métropolite Dosoftei (1624-1693). Il fut également un grand érudit, poète et traducteur.
De son vrai nom Dimitrie Barila, il est né à Suceava (actuelle Roumanie) et étudia successivement dans un monastère de Iasi et dans une école orthodoxe de Lviv (Ukraine). Il devint ensuite moine puis évêque puis enfin Metropolite (titre porté encore aujourd'hui par certains évêques des Eglises d'Orient) de Moldavie de 1671 à 1686. Il finira ses jours en Pologne.
The 2nd character is oldest: the 1,50 L stamp represents the Metropolitan Dosoftei (1624-1693). He was also a great scholar, poet and translator.
Of his true name Dimitrie Barila, he was born in Suceava (current Rumania) and studied successively in a monastery of Iasi and in an orthodox school of Lviv (Ukraine). He became then a monk then a bishop then finally Metropolitan (title worn even today by certain bishops of the Oriental churches) of Moldavia from 1671 to 1686. He will end his days in Poland.

Il a été un des plus importants érudits et poète de langue roumaine du XVIIème siècle. Son oeuvre la plus célèbre est le "Psaume Roumain en Vers".
A noter que le synode de l'Eglise Orthodoxe Roumaine l'a canonisé en 2005.
He was one of the more important scholars and poet of Rumanian language of the XVIIth century. His most famous work is the "Rumanian Psalmer in verse ".
To note that the synod of the Rumanian Greek Orthodox Church canonized him in 2005.

Je n'ai malheureusement pas réussi à identifier le monastère figurant à la droite du timbre...
Pour finir, je trouve assez amusant de mêler une plume et un bistouri sur l'illlustration du cachet mais cela résume bien cette série !
I did not regrettably manage to identify the monastery appearing in the right of the stamp...
To finish, I find rather funny to mix a feather and a bistoury on the illlustration of the postmark but it indeed summarizes this series!
