L'Allemagne a été logiquement le 1er pays à mettre en circulation en 2020, le 2 janvier, un timbre commémorant le 250ème anniversaire de la naissance du compositeur et pianiste allemand Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827), probablement l'un des musiciens les plus connus à travers le monde, avec Mozart...
Ce timbre (0,80€), splendide, a été conçu par Thomas Steinacker, originaire de Bonn (la ville de naissance de Beethoven) à partir d'un portrait du musicien datant de 1820, par le peintre allemand Joseph Karl Stieler, exposé dans sa maison natale.
A noter que ce timbre a été imprimé dans un feuillet de 10 timbres gommés, comme de coutume, mais également dans un carnet "Markenset" composé de 10 timbres autocollants.
La version gommée de ce timbre figure sur la lettre ci-dessous, envoyée le 1er jour d'émission depuis la ville de Gütersloh (Rhénanie-du-Nord-Westphalie). Merci beaucoup Jens !

This splendid stamp (€ 0.80) was designed by Thomas Steinacker, living in Bonn (the Beethoven's birth place) from a portrait of the musician dating from 1820, by the German painter Joseph Karl Stieler, exhibited in his birthplace.
To note that this stamp was printed in a sheet of 10 gummed stamps, as usual, but also in a "Markenset" booklet composed of 10 self-adhesive stamps.
The gummed version of this stamp was used on the letter below, sent on the first day of issue from the city of Gütersloh (North Rhine-Westphalia). Thank you very much Jens!
Une clé de sol stylisée est également présente en filigrane sur le portrait de Beethoven ainsi que sa signature incluant uniquement les consonnes de son nom (BTHVN) ayant inspiré les créateurs du logo de cette année de festivités liées à ce 250ème anniversaire : BTHVN2020 (cf ce logo reproduit dans la marge à gauche de ce timbre).
De temps en temps, Beethoven signa en effet quelques partitions et quelques lettres avec ces 5 consonnes.
Ce logo sera présent sur les nombreux timbres émis cette année à travers le monde, comme ceux déjà émis par l'Ukraine, Guernesey ou la République serbe de Bosnie...
Avec sa musique immortelle, Beethoven est considéré comme un artiste radical et un visionnaire créatif, ayant défendu passionnément les idéaux de liberté et de fraternité, en particulier à travers sa Symphonie n°9 composée entre 1822 et 1824, ayant profondément influencé l'histoire de la musique au 19ème et 20ème siècle.
L'Hymne à la joie, finale du dernier mouvement de cette symphonie, est l'hymne officiel de l'Union européenne depuis 1986.
A stylized G-clef is also present as a watermark on the portrait of Beethoven as well as his signature including only the consonants of his name (BTHVN) which inspired the creators of the logo for this year of festivities linked to this 250th anniversary: BTHVN2020 (see this logo reproduced in the left margin of this stamp).
From time to time, Beethoven indeed signed a few scores and letters with these 5 consonants.
This logo will be present on the many stamps issued this year around the world, such as those already issued by Ukraine, Guernsey or the Bosnian Republika Srpska ...
With his immortal music, Beethoven is considered a radical artist and a creative visionary, having passionately defended the ideals of freedom and brotherhood, in particular through his Symphony No. 9 composed between 1822 and 1824, having deeply influenced the history of music in the 19th and 20th century.
The Ode to Joy, final of the last movement of this symphony, has been the official anthem of the European Union since 1986.
