A peine 10 jours après l'émission d'un timbre célébrant le 25ème anniversaire de l'adhésion de l'Autriche à l'Union européenne, la poste autrichienne a surpris beaucoup de collectionneurs (mais pas que) en mettant en circulation, le 31 janvier 2020, un timbre consacré au Brexit, le processus de sortie du Royaume-Uni de cette même Union européenne, devenu effectif au cours de la nuit du 31 janvier au 1er février 2020...
La dénonciation du traité d'union entre l'UE et le Royaume-Uni a été décidée à 51,9 % par le référendum du 23 juin 2016.
La procédure de retrait entamée le 29 mars 2017 par la notification de l'article 50 du traité sur l'Union européenne aurait dû aboutir à un retrait effectif deux ans plus tard, le 29 mars 2019.

The withdrawal procedure initiated on March 29, 2017 by the notification of Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union should have resulted in an effective withdrawal two years later, on March 29, 2019.
La poste autrichienne avait donc prévu initialement d'émettre ce timbre le 29 mars 2019 mais cette date a été prorogée à de multiples reprises, pour finir par être repoussée au 31 janvier 2020.
Au lieu de détruire les 140000 timbres déjà imprimés, une surcharge a été ajoutée sur ces timbres avec mention de la nouvelle date de ce Brexit (la date initiale étant barrée).
C'est ce timbre surchargé (1,80€), conçu par Anita Kern, qui figure sur le pli Premier Jour ci-dessus, avec TAD de Vienne évoquant le drapeau de l'UE, avec une étoile en moins... Merci beaucoup Edna !
Ce timbre représente une carte avec les 27 pays membres de l'UE en bleu foncé, les pays qui n'appartiennent pas à l'UE en blanc (comme la Suisse ou la Serbie) et le Royaume-Uni en bleu clair + vernis transparent.
L'émission de ce timbre a été largement relayée dans les médias et réseaux sociaux et il semble que ce timbre ait été épuisé très rapidement...
Austrian Post had therefore initially planned to issue this stamp on March 29, 2019 but this date was extended several times, only to be postponed to January 31, 2020.
Instead of destroying the 140,000 stamps already printed, an overprint has been added to these stamps with the mention of the new date of this Brexit (the initial date being crossed out).
It is this overprinted stamp (€ 1.80), designed by Anita Kern, which is present on the First Day cover above, with postmartk from Vienna evoking the flag of the EU, without one of its stars ... Thank you very much Edna!
This stamp represents a map with the 27 EU member countries in dark blue, the non-EU countries in white (like Switzerland or Serbia) and the United Kingdom in light blue + transparent varnish.
The issue of this stamp has been widely reported in the media and social networks and it seems that this stamp was sold out very quickly ...
