Le 24 septembre 1911, en présence du président du conseil Joseph Caillaux, l'hôtel des postes de la ville d'Alençon, préfecture du département de l'Orne, était officiellement inauguré après 2 ans de travaux et 15 ans de gestation.
Ce nouvel hôtel des postes (architecte : Albert Mezen), construit à l'emplacement de l'ancien palais de justice, demeure toujours aujourd'hui un élément architectural remarquable de la ville d'Alençon.
On September 24, 1911, in the presence of the President of the Council of Ministers Joseph Caillaux, the main Post Office ("Hôtel des Postes") of the town of Alençon, Prefecture of the Orne department (61), was officially opened after two years of construction and 15 years of gestation.
This new Post Office (by architect Albert Mezen), built on the site of the old courthouse, now remains a remarkable architectural feature of the town of Alençon.
Pour commémorer les 100 ans (jour pour jour) de la construction de cet hôtel des postes d'Alençon, un timbre à date spécial était proposé au public les 24 et 25 septembre 2011.C'est cette oblitération qui figure sur la lettre ci-dessus. Merci beaucoup Stéphane :-)
L'édifice, tel qu'il était au moment de sa construction y est représenté. La partie supérieure du toit a aujourd'hui disparu.
A noter l'absence d'une apostrophe avant le terme "Hôtel" sur ce cachet ?

To commemorate the 100th anniversary (to the day) of the construction of this Alençon's Post Office, a special postmark has been issued on 24 and 25 September 2011.
It is this cancellation that appears on the letter above. Thank you very much Stéphane :-)
The building as it was at the time of its construction is depicted. The upper part of the roof has now disappeared.

Je vous montre ci-dessus l'autre face de cette même lettre où une marque a été apposée, mentionnant un transport exceptionnel de courrier par ballon (à hélium) le 25 septembre 2011 !Ce transport spécial fait référence au grand ballon monté "Ville d'Alençon" qui s'éleva dans le ciel de la ville le 16 mai 1909 lors de la pause de la 1ère pierre de l'hôtel des postes.
A l'occasion des célébrations de ce centenaire, un guichet postal du début du 20ème siècle a été reconstitué (Halle au blé) et une exposition philatélique et cartophile était organisée par le groupement philatélique alençonnais.
I show you above the other side of that letter on which a ink mark was applied, indicating an exceptional transport of mail by (helium) ballon on September 25, 2011 !
This special airmail transport refers to the large balloon "Ville d'Alençon" that climbed into the sky of the city on May 16, 1909 when the Post Office's foundation stone was laid.
At the occasion of this centenary celebrations, a post office in the early 20th century was recreated (at the "Halle au blé") and a stamp and postcard exhibition was organized by the Alençon's Philatelic Association.
Stéphane a eu également la gentillesse de m'envoyer l'autre souvenir ci-dessus avec un autre timbre à date spécial (émis les 22 et 23 octobre 2011) commémorant cette fois le 200ème anniversaire du bureau de poste de la ville de Livarot (département du Calvados), également située dans la région de Basse-Normandie :-)Ce bureau de poste a en effet été créé suite à une décision du 27 août 1811 (Premier Empire).
J'aime bien cette oblitération, qui semble représenter une malle-poste, avec son cercle en pointillés !
Stéphane a utilisé un des 2 timbres ronds faisant partie du bloc-feuillet émis récemment à l'occasion des championnats du monde d'haltérophilie, organisés prochainement à Paris.
Stéphane was also kind enough to send me the other philatelic souvenir above with another special cancellation (issued on 22 and 23 October 2011), this time commemorating the 200th anniversary of the post office of the city of Livarot (department of Calvados), also located in the region of Lower Normandy :-)
This post office has indeed been created following a decision of August 27, 1811 (First Empire).
I really like this postmark, that seems to feature a mail coach, with its dotted circle !
