C'est au pape Jean-Paul II que l'on doit, à partir de 1984, cette idée de rassembler régulièrement les jeunes catholiques du monde entier, afin de stimuler leur participation au sein de l'église...
La journée mondiale de la jeunesse (JMJ) est ainsi célébrée chaque année dans tous les diocèses (le dimanche des rameaux) et, tous les 2 ou 3 ans, un grand rassemblement international a lieu en présence du pape.
La 28ème édition de ces JMJ a eu lieu à Rio de Janeiro du 23 au 28 juillet 2013, en présence du 266ème pape, François, le 1er pape de l'histoire originaire du continent sud-américain.
A noter que ces JMJ 2013 avaient lieu pour la 2ème fois en Amérique latine, pour la 3ème fois dans l'hémisphère sud et pour la 1ère fois dans un pays lusophone...

The World Youth Day (WYD) is thus celebrated every year in all the dioceses (on Palm Sunday) and, every 2 or 3 years, a large international gathering is organized in the presence of the pope.
The 28th edition of the World Youth Day took place in Rio de Janeiro from 23 to 28 July 2013, in the presence of the 266th pope, Francis, the first pope of history native from the South American continent.
To note that this WYD 2013 took place for the second time in Latin America, for the third time in the Southern Hemisphere and for the first time in a Portuguese-speaking country...
La poste brésilienne (Correios) a émis, le 23 juillet 2013, un timbre spécial (1,80 R$) à l'occasion de ces JMJ. C'est ce timbre (tirage : 1200000), conçu par Fernando Lopes, qui figure sur ce pli Premier Jour ci-dessus (avec TAD de Rio de Janeiro), envoyé le 28 octobre 2013 de Sao Paulo. Ce timbre montre un portrait bienveillant du pape François, la baie de Guanabara dans le fond avec la statue du Christ Rédempteur érigée sur le Corcovado, le symbole de Rio, ainsi que le logo de ces JMJ évoquant cette même statue aux couleurs du drapeau brésilien (jaune, vert, bleu).
A noter que, contrairement aux JMJ 2011 à Madrid, ce timbre ne constitue pas une émission commune avec la Cité du Vatican et que les prochaines JMJ auront lieu en 2016 à Cracovie.
Marcelo a également utilisé ci-dessus un timbre (0,95 R$) faisant partie d'une série de 5 timbres, émise le 26 mai 2004, reproduisant des oeuvres disparues du peintre néo-réaliste brésilien Candido Portinari (1903-1962), "un garçon assis avec un agneau" (1958) ici.
The Brazilian Post (Correios) has issued on July 23, 2013, a special stamp (R$ 1.80) on the occasion of this World Youth Day. It is that stamp (print run : 1.2 million), designed by Fernando Lopes, that was used on the first day cover above (with FDC postmark from Rio de Janeiro), sent on October 28, 2013 from Sao Paulo. That stamp features a portrait of smiling pope Francis, Guanabara Bay in the background with the statue of Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado, the symbol of Rio, as well as the WYD logo evoking that same statue and the colors of the Brazilian flag (yellow, green, blue).
To note that, contrary to the WYD 2011 in Madrid, that stamp is not a joint issue with the Vatican City and that the next World Youth Day will be held in 2016 in Krakow, Poland.
Marcelo also used above a stamp (R$ 0.95) being part of a set of five stamps, issued on May 26, 2004, reproducing disappeared works by neo-realist Brazilian painter Candido Portinari (1903-1962), "a boy sitting with a lamb" (1958) here.
