Un timbre EUROPA devait être mis en circulation cette année par la poste française en Principauté d'Andorre, le 11 mai 2020, mais en raison de la crise de la Covid-19, l'émission a été repoussée au 2 juin 2020.
Le TAD Premier Jour du 11 mai 2020 a toutefois été conservé, comme celui appliqué sur cette lettre. J'aime beaucoup ce TAD représentant un facteur rural avec les montagnes andorranes dans le fond.
Pour rappel, le thème EUROPA est consacré cette année aux anciennes routes postales ("Antigues rutes postals" en catalan).
Le timbre (1,40€, tirage : 60000), conçu par Enric Cardús, représente une carte d'Andorre sur laquelle figure le trajet (en rouge) de l'ancienne route postale qui reliait l'Ospitalet (France) à Andorre-la-Vieille.
A EUROPA stamp was to be put into circulation this year by the French Post in the Principality of Andorra, on May 11, 2020, but due to the Covid-19 crisis, the issue was postponed to June 2, 2020.
The First Day postmark of May 11, 2020 has, however, been maintained, such as the one applied to this letter.
I really love this postmark representing a rural factor with the Andorran mountains in the background.
As a reminder, the EUROPA theme is devoted this year to ancient postal routes ("Antigues rutes postals" in Catalan).
The stamp (€ 1.40, print run: 60,000), designed by Enric Cardús, is featuring an old map of Andorra on which appears the route (in red) of the ancient postal route which linked l'Ospitalet (France) to Andorra la Vella.
Depuis la fin du 18ème siècle, la distribution du courrier des vallées d'Andorre était rattachée au bureau de poste de La Seu d'Urgell (Espagne), par où passait la route la plus proche d'Andorre.
Pour rappel, La Seu d'Urgell est le siège du diocèse d'Urgell, dont l'évêque est, avec le président de la République française, coprince d'Andorre.
Cette dépendance avec l'Espagne et la perte de notoriété du gouvernement français en Andorre vont entraîner l'ouverture de cette nouvelle voie postale entre Andorre-la-Vieille et L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre ("L'Ospitalet" sur le timbre).
Entre 1837 et 1870, les lettres transitaient par L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre, en diligence via Ax-les-Thermes. Puis un messager prenait les lettres dans le relais postal à L'Hospitalet et les transportait à pied jusqu'en Andorre en passant par le Port d'Envalira, à 2409 mètres d'altitude, et Soldeu (voyage qui durait 11h30).
A noter que le timbre EUROPA 2020 émis par la poste espagnole en Andorre est consacrée à l'autre route postale entre La Seu d'Urgell et Andorre-la-Vieille.
Since the end of the 18th century, the delivery of mail from the valleys of Andorra was attached to the post office of La Seu d'Urgell (Spain), where the road closest to Andorra passed.
As a reminder, La Seu d'Urgell is the seat of the diocese of Urgell, whose bishop is, with the President of the French Republic, co-prince of Andorra.
This dependence on Spain and the loss of notoriety of the French government in Andorra will lead to the opening of this new postal route between Andorra la Vella and L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre ("L'Ospitalet" on the stamp).
Between 1837 and 1870, the letters passed through L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre, in stagecoach via Ax-les-Thermes. Then a messenger took the letters from the postal relay at L'Hospitalet and transported them on foot to Andorra via the Port d'Envalira (el. 2409 m.) and Soldeu (a journey which lasted more than 11 hours).
To note that the EUROPA 2020 stamp issued by the Spanish Post in Andorra is dedicated to the other postal route between La Seu d'Urgell and Andorra la Vella.
