Timbre commun "500 ans de Sigismond II Auguste" avec la Lituanie sur lettre de Pologne

Après un 1er timbre commun émis en 2018 consacré au 300ème anniversaire du couronnement de l'icône de la Mère de Dieu de Trakai (Lituanie), les administrations postales de Pologne et de Lituanie ont mis en circulation, le 1er août 2020, un 2ème timbre commun ayant pour thème le 500ème anniversaire de la naissance de Sigismond II Auguste (1520-1572), grand-duc de Lituanie et roi de Pologne de 1548 à 1572.
La version polonaise de ce timbre (3,30 PLN, tirage : 175000), conçu par Bożydar Grozdew, figure en 2 exemplaires sur cette jolie lettre envoyée le 9 octobre 2020 depuis Cracovie. Merci beaucoup Krisztian !
Ce timbre reproduite une partie d'une œuvre d'art (1867, Musée national de Varsovie) représentant Sigismond II Auguste et Barbara Radziwiłł, l'amour de sa vie, par Jan Matejko (1838-1893), considéré comme le plus grand peintre historique polonais. 
After a first joint stamp issued in 2018 dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the coronation of the icon of the Mother of God (Our Lady) of Trakai, Lithuania, the postal administrations of Poland and Lithuania put into circulation, on August 1, 2020, a 2nd joint stamp having for theme the 500th anniversary of the birth of Sigismund II Augustus (1520-1572), Grand Duke of Lithuania and King of Poland from 1548 to 1572.
The Polish version of this stamp (3.30 PLN, print run: 175,000), designed by Bożydar Grozdew, is present in two copies on this nice letter sent on October 9, 2020 from Krakow. Thank you very much Krisztian!
This stamp reproduces a part of a work of art (1867, National Museum in Warsaw) featuring Sigismund II Augustus and Barbara Radziwiłł, the love of his life, by Jan Matejko (1838-1893), considered the greatest Polish historical painter.

 

Barbara, également née en 1520, est issue de la maison Radziwiłł, l'une des plus anciennes et riches familles lituano-polonaises.
Vers 1543, une histoire d'amour se noue entre Barbara et Sigismond II Auguste, fils du roi de Pologne. Les deux amants s'épousent alors secrètement.
En 1548 après la mort de son père, Sigismond devient roi de Pologne et rend public son mariage secret avec Barbara malgré les injonctions de la Diète qui entend casser cette union jugée inégale.
Ce mariage, qui renforce le pouvoir de la déjà très puissante famille Radziwiłł en lutte pour le contrôle du grand-duché de Lituanie, rencontre également une forte opposition de la noblesse polonaise et de la famille royale, le frère de Barbara étant un ardent défenseur de la souveraineté de la Lituanie contre toute union avec la Pologne.
En 1550, Barbara est toutefois couronnée dans la cathédrale du Wawel de Cracovie mais meurt subitement 5 mois plus tard (soupçons d'empoisonnement par la reine mère, Bona Sforza).
Malgré cette fin tragique, l'amour entre Sigismond II Auguste et Barbara est considéré comme un exemple d'amour véritable depuis près de 500 ans et est accompagné de nombreuses histoires romantiques, de nombreuses œuvres ayant été écrites sur ce thème. 
Krisztian a utilisé 2 autres timbres ci-dessus dont un (1,30 PLN), émis le 7 octobre 2005 à l'occasion de la journée mondiale de la poste, représentant une vue ancienne de l'édifice postal historique de cette même ville de Cracovie.
L'autre timbre (0,10 PLN), émis le 15 septembre 2015, fait partie d'une jolie série courante consacrée à des fleurs et des fruits, une fleur de nénuphar blanc (Nymphaea alba) ici.
Barbara, also born in 1520, comes from the Radziwiłł house, one of the oldest and more powerful Lithuanian-Polish families.
Around 1543, a love story occured between Barbara and Sigismond II Augustus, son of the King of Poland. The two lovers then married secretly.
In 1548 after the death of his father, Sigismond became King of Poland and made public his secret marriage with Barbara despite the injunctions of the Diet which intended to break this union considered illegal.
This marriage, which strengthened the power of the already very powerful Radziwiłł family in struggle for control of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, also met strong opposition from the Polish nobility and the royal family, Barbara's brother being a staunch defender of the sovereignty of Lithuania against any union with Poland.
In 1550, however, Barbara was crowned in the Wawel Cathedral in Krakow but died suddenly 5 months later (suspected poisoning by the queen mother, Bona Sforza).
Despite this tragic end, the love between Sigismund II Augustus and Barbara has been regarded as an example of true love for almost 500 years and is accompanied by many romantic stories, with many works written on this theme.
