"Magellan - discovery of the Pacific Ocean" m/s on FDC from Moldova

Bloc-feuillet "Magellan - découverte de l'océan Pacifique" sur FDC  de Moldavie

Dans le cadre de sa série (4 timbres + 1 bloc-feuillet) intitulée "Personnalités qui ont changé l'histoire du monde" ("Personalități care au schimbat istoria lumii"), la poste moldave a mis en circulation le 13 octobre 2020 un bloc-feuillet consacré à Fernand de Magellan et au 500ème anniversaire de la découverte de l'océan Pacifique.
D'autres administrations postales ont également émis des timbres sur ce thème en 2019 ou 2020 : Liechtenstein, Uruguay, Portugal, Espagne, Hongrie, Monaco ou Roumanie.
Ce bloc-feuillet (15,50 L, tirage : 8000), conçu par Vladimir Melnic, figure sur ce splendide FDC officiel (tirage :  300) avec son TAD associé de Chișinău (MD-2012). Merci beaucoup Nicolae !   
A noter que les dates de naissance et de décès de Magellan, présentes sur le bloc-feuillet et le TAD, sont complètement fausses et correspondent à celles de Léonard de Vinci...
As part of its series (4 stamps + 1 souvenir sheet) entitled "Personalities who changed world history" ("Personalități care au schimbat istoria lumii"), the Post of Moldova put into circulation on October 13, 2020 a souvenir sheet dedicated to Ferdinand Magellan and the 500th anniversary of the discovery of the Pacific Ocean.
Other postal administrations have also issued stamps on this theme in 2019 or 2020: Liechtenstein, Uruguay, Portugal, Spain, Hungary, Monaco or Romania.
This souvenir sheet (15.50 L, print run: 8,000), designed by Vladimir Melnic, is present on this splendid official FDC (print run: 300) with its associated postmark from Chișinău (MD-2012). Thank you very much Nicolae!
To note that the dates of birth and death of Magellan, present on the souvenir sheet and the postmark, are completely wrong and correspond to those of Leonardo da Vinci ...

 

Un portrait du navigateur portugais Fernand de Magellan (1480-1521) est représenté sur le timbre, la vignette attenante montrant la caraque espagnole "Victoria" qui faisait partie de l'expédition (avec 4 autres navires, 237 hommes) pour découvrir une route maritime pour rallier par l'ouest l'archipel des Moluques, qu'il commanda à partir de 1519. La "Victoria" fut la seule à boucler le tour du monde. 
Magellan atteint d'abord l'Amérique du Sud et, en octobre 1520, il trouve le passage vers l'océan Pacifique entre la Terre de Feu et l'extrême sud du continent sud-américain.
En mars 1521, la flotte atteint une île des Philippines où Magellan se fait tuer lors de démêlés avec des autochtones. L'espagnol Juan Sebastian Elcano devient alors le nouveau capitaine et réussit à atteindre les îles productrices d'épices et a bouclé cette circumnavigation en rentrant en Europe en septembre 1522.
A portrait of the Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan (1480-1521) is depicted on the stamp, the adjoining label showing the Spanish carrack "Victoria" which was part of the expedition (with 4 other ships, 237 men) to discover a sea route to join by the west the archipelago of Moluccas, which he commanded from 1519. The "Victoria" was the first ship to successfully circumnavigate the world.
Magellan first reached South America, and in October 1520, he found the passage to the Pacific Ocean between Tierra del Fuego and the extreme south of the South American continent.
In March 1521, the fleet reached an island in the Philippines where Magellan was killed in trouble with the locals. The Spanish Juan Sebastian Elcano then became the new captain and succeeded in reaching the spice-producing islands and completed this circumnavigation by returning to Europe in September 1522.
