Timbre Noël 2023 sur FDC de Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon
Comme de coutume, l'administration postale de l'archipel de Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, collectivité française d'outre-mer située au large du Canada, a mis en circulation, le 8 novembre 2023, un timbre consacré aux festivités de Noël.
Ce timbre (tarif permanent "Lettre Verte" pour un envoi vers la France, Andorre et Monaco jusqu'à 20g - 1,16€ actuellement) intitulé "Mon premier Noël à Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon" a été utilisé sur cette lettre avec un étrange TAD Premier Jour (traineau du Père Noël) sans mention précise de lieu (ni Saint-Pierre, ni Miquelon...). As usual, the postal administration of the archipelago of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, a French overseas community located off the coast of Canada, has put into circulation, on November 8, 2023, a stamp dedicated to the festivities of Christmas.
This stamp (permanent "Green Letter" rate for sending letters to France, Andorra and Monaco up to 20g - €1.16 currently) entitled "My first Christmas in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon" was used on this cover with a strange First Day cancellation (Santa Claus' sleigh) without precise mention of location (neither Saint-Pierre, nor Miquelon...). Je suppose que ce timbre (tirage : 15000), imprimé en feuille de 25 timbres, reproduit un dessin d'un jeune garçon ou d'une jeune fille (C. Foussard) dont la famille s'est installée récemment à Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon...
Le traineau du Père Noël est représenté à gauche dans un ciel étoilé, un sapin sous un ciel ensoleillé figurant à droite, avec une sorte de phare au centre (inspiré du phare de la Pointe aux Canons sur l'île Saint-Pierre ?).
Dans l'ensemble, la forêt de Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon est en effet dominée par le Sapin baumier (Abies balsamea), arbre caractéristique de la forêt boréale nord-américaine. Entre 1952 et 2012, la surface forestière a régressé de 35 % en moyenne sur l'ensemble de l’archipel.
I suppose that this stamp (print run: 15,000), printed in a sheet of 25 stamps, reproduces a drawing by a young boy or girl (C. Foussard) whose family recently settled in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon...
Santa's sleigh is represented on the left in a starry sky, a fir tree under a sunny sky appearing on the right, with a kind of lighthouse in the center (inspired by the Pointe aux Canons lighthouse on Saint-Pierre Island?).
Overall, the forest of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon is indeed dominated by the balsam fir (Abies balsamea), a characteristic tree of the North American boreal forest. Between 1952 and 2012, the forest area declined by 35% on average across the entire archipelago.
