Après les 70 ans des "Mariannes de la Libération" en 2015, le 140ème anniversaire de l'émission des premiers timbres "type Sage" (ou "Paix et Commerce") a été célébré cette année pendant le 70ème Salon Philatélique d'Automne organisé du 3 au 6 novembre 2016 à Paris.
Ce type Sage fait référence à une série de timbres courants représentant une allégorie intitulée "Le Commerce et la Paix s'unissant et régnant sur le monde" (une femme portant un rameau d'olivier et le dieu grec Hermès, se tenant la main au-dessus d'un globe terrestre) dessinés par Jules Auguste Sage (1840-1910) et gravés par Louis Eugène Mouchon (1843-1914).
Pour l'occasion, la poste française a mis en circulation, le 3 novembre 2016, un bloc-feuillet (20 timbres à 1€) et un carnet (composé de 2 volets) dont je reparlerai dans un prochain message.
After the 70th anniversary of the "Marianne of the Liberation" in 2015, the 140th anniversary of the issue of the first "Type Sage" (or "Peace and Commerce") stamps was celebrated this year during the 70th Salon Philatélique d'Automne organized from 3 to 6 November 2016 in Paris.
This "Type Sage" refers to a series of definitive stamps featuring an allegory entitled "Commerce and Peace Uniting and Ruling the World" (a woman carrying an olive branch and Greek god Hermes, holding hands over a globe) designed by Jules Auguste Sage (1840-1910) and engraved by Louis Eugène Mouchon (1843-1914).
For this occasion, on November 3, 2016, the French Post put into circulation a minisheet (20 €1.00 stamps) and a booklet (composed of 2 parts), about which I will write later on this blog.
La bande supérieure (5 timbres) de ce bloc-feuillet a été utilisée sur la lettre ci-dessus avec son TAD associé (conception : Valérie Besser) mentionnant ce 70ème Salon Philatélique d'Automne et les 140 ans du type Sage 1876.
Les 20 timbres de ce bloc-feuillet reproduisent le visuel de ce type Sage (gravure : Elsa Catelin qui a signé à droite sur cette enveloppe), imprimé pendant près de 25 ans (entre 1876 et 1899).
Cette série est connue pour ses différentes variétés et types (le poinçon initial fut cassé lors de la trempe) repérables par la position de la signature "J A SAGE INV" sous le cartouche "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE", avec 2 types principaux : lettre N de INV sous le 1er U de REPUBLIQUE et lettre N de INV sous le B de REPUBLIQUE.
Par ordre chronologique, 3 types ont été émis (type 1 avec le N sous B, type 2 avec le N sous U et type 3 avec le N sous B).
The top strip (5 stamps) of this minisheet was used on the letter above with its associated postmark (design : Valérie Besser) mentioning this 70th Salon Philatélique d'Automne and the 140 years of this "Type Sage 1876".
The 20 stamps of this minisheet reproduce the original design of this "Type Sage" (engraving : Elsa Catelin who signed to the right on this envelope), printed for nearly 25 years (between 1876 and 1899).
This series is known for its different varieties and types (the initial punch was broken during hardening) marked by the position of the signature "J A SAGE INV" along the lower left edge of the stamp beneath the word "REPUBLIQUE" of "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE", with 2 main types : the letter N of INV under the 1st U of REPUBLIQUE and the letter N of INV under the B of REPUBLIQUE.
In chronological order, three types were issued (type 1 with "N under B", type 2 with "N under U" and type 3 with "N under B").
Concernant ce bloc-feuillet de 20 timbres (vue complète ci-dessus avec coin daté du 7 octobre 2016), 10 timbres sont de type "N sous B" (3 sur la bande supérieure par exemple) et 10 timbres de type "N sous U" (2 sur la bande supérieure).
Le TAD du 3 novembre 2016 permet de voir en gros plan ces 2 types.
A noter le retour de la mention "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" sur des timbres français à travers cette émission !
Pour rappel, cette mention "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" fut remplacée en 1999 (après Philexfrance 99) par "RF", remplacée par "FRANCE" fin 2004.
Regarding this 20-stamp minisheet (complete view above with dated corner of October 7, 2016), 10 stamps are printed with the "N under B" type (3 on the top strip for example) and 10 stamps printed with the "N under U" type (2 on the top strip).
The cancellation of November 3, 2016 allows to see a close-up view of these two types.
To note the comeback of the mention "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" on French stamps through this issue !
As a reminder, this mention "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" was replaced in 1999 (after the stamp show "Philexfrance 99") by "RF", replaced by "FRANCE" at the end of 2004.
