Étrange anniversaire que ces 140 ans de l'Orient-Express, célébré à travers l'émission d'un nouveau bloc-feuillet français le 2 octobre 2023 (vente générale)...
Conçu par le studio de graphisme et d'illustration Broll & Prascida, crée en 2010 par Anne-Charlotte Laurans, ce bloc-feuillet (1,80€, tirage : 330000) a été utilisé sur cette enveloppe avec TAD Premier Jour de Paris du 29 septembre 2023. Merci beaucoup Stéphane !
J'aime bien le TAD, inspiré d'une étiquette à bagage de la Compagnie internationale des wagons-lits, fondée en 1872 par l'homme d'affaires belge, Georges Nagelmackers qui fit construire les premières voitures-lits et voitures-restaurant d'Europe et qui lança en 1883 ce train de luxe Orient-express entre Paris et Constantinople (via Vienne, Budapest, Belgrade et Sofia).

Designed by the graphics and illustration studio Broll & Prascida, created in 2010 by Anne-Charlotte Laurans, this souvenir sheet (€1.80, print run: 330,000) was used on this envelope with First Day cancellation from Paris dated September 29, 2023. Thank you very much Stéphane!
I like the postmark, inspired by a luggage tag from the "Compagnie internationale des wagons-lits", founded in 1872 by the Belgian businessman, Georges Nagelmackers who had the first sleeping cars and dining cars built in Europe and who launched in 1883 this luxury Orient-express train between Paris and Constantinople (via Vienna, Budapest, Belgrade and Sofia).

Aujourd'hui encore, il ne s'agit plus seulement d'un train, mais d'un véritable mythe qui fait partie de notre histoire et de notre patrimoine.
L'Orient-Express a été ce train mythique qui traversait l'Europe et qui a connu son apogée dans les Années folles. Avec son design Art déco, ses belles couleurs bleu nuit et or et ses services de luxe, il avait de quoi faire rêver. Malheureusement, il n'existe plus vraiment aujourd'hui.
Reliant Paris à Constantinople en 81 heures, il représentait un tour de force diplomatique et économique. L'Orient-Express était alors l'un des principaux axes de communication entre Orient et Occident, véritable trait d'union entre une diversité de territoires et de cultures.
J'aime bien ce bloc-feuillet poétique, avec le timbre représentant ce train circulant la nuit (avec des collines dans le fond évoquant un visage de femme endormie), partant de Paris (tour Eiffel dans la marge à gauche) en direction d'Istanbul (ancienne église Sainte-Sophie dans la marge à droite).
Even today, it is no longer just a train, but a true myth which is part of our history and our heritage.
The Orient-Express was this legendary train which crossed Europe and which reached its peak in the Roaring Twenties. With its Art Deco design, its beautiful midnight blue and gold colors and its luxury services, it had something to dream about. Unfortunately, it no longer really exists today.
Connecting Paris to Constantinople in 81 hours, it represented a diplomatic and economic tour de force. The Orient-Express was then one of the main axes of communication between East and West, a true link between a diversity of territories and cultures.
I love this poetic souvenir sheet, with the stamp representing this train traveling at night (with hills in the background evoking the face of a sleeping woman), leaving Paris (Eiffel Tower in the left margin) in the direction of Istanbul (former Hagia Sophia Church in the right margin).
