Timbre "Jules Isaac (1877-1963)" sur FDC de France
C'est à Jules Isaac que l'on doit une prise de conscience décisive : l'historien a su démontrer que l'antisémitisme avait des racines dans l'antijudaïsme. Et c'est pour lutter contre l'antisémitisme qu'il a fondé l'Amitié judéo-chrétienne de France (AJCF) en 1948.
Jules Isaac est aussi celui qui a transformé les relations entre les juifs et les catholiques, suite à sa rencontre avec le pape Jean XXIII en 1960.
À l'occasion des 60 ans de sa mort, la poste française a mis en circulation, le 4 septembre 2023 (vente générale), un timbre consacré à Jules Isaac (1877-1963).
Ce timbre (1,16€, tirage : 600000), conçu par Sandrine Chimbaud et gravé par Pierre Bara, a été utilisé sur cette lettre avec TAD Premier Jour de Paris du 1er septembre 2023. Merci beaucoup Stéphane !
La prévente de ce timbre avait également lieu à Rennes (35) et Aix-en-Provence (13), villes respectives de naissance et de décès de Jules Isaac.

Jules Isaac, issu d'une famille israélite d'Alsace-Lorraine, fut l'un des auteurs des fameux "Malet - Isaac" aux éditions Hachette, ces manuels d'histoire sur lesquels tant d'étudiants français ont travaillé dans la 1ère moitié du 20ème siècle. Sa brillante carrière universitaire l'a conduit au poste d'inspecteur général d'histoire, avant d'être destitué par le régime de Vichy.
A l'issue de la guerre, il œuvra pour la réconciliation franco-allemande. Il publia son grand livre "Jésus et Israël" en 1948, en même temps qu'il fondait l'Amitié judéo-chrétienne de France.
Dans ce livre, Isaac analyse en particulier l'enseignement du mépris par les églises chrétiennes à l'encontre des juifs.
En 1947, il a activement participé aux travaux de la conférence internationale de Seelisberg (Suisse) pour étudier les causes de l'antisémitisme chrétien.
Jules Isaac, born from a Jewish family of Alsace-Lorraine, was one of the authors of the famous "Malet - Isaac" published by Hachette, these history textbooks on which so many French students worked in the first half of the 20th century. His brilliant academic career led him to the position of inspector general of history, before being dismissed by the Vichy regime.
At the end of the war, he worked for Franco-German reconciliation. He published his major book "Jesus and Israel" in 1948, at the same time as he founded the Judeo-Christian Friendship of France.
In this book, Isaac analyzes in particular the teaching of contempt by the Christian churches against the Jews.
In 1947, he actively participated in the work of the international conference in Seelisberg, Switzerland to study the causes of Christian anti-Semitism.
