EUROPA 2019 (National birds) m/s on cover from Portugal

Bloc-feuillet EUROPA 2019 (Oiseaux nationaux) sur lettre du Portugal

Comme les années précédentes, 3 timbres EUROPA (0,86€) ainsi que 3 bloc-feuillets (2 timbres chacun), conçus cette année par Nuno Farinha, ont été émis en 2019 (le 9 mai, Journée de l'Europe) par la poste portugaise (CTT) dont deux incluant les mentions "Açores" et "Madeira", comme de coutume (pour rappel, ces timbres peuvent toutefois être utilisés sur le territoire du Portugal continental).
Le thème choisi par l'association PostEurop pour les timbres EUROPA émis en 2019 était consacré aux oiseaux nationaux ("aves nacionais" en portugais).
Merci beaucoup Luis pour cette jolie lettre envoyée en recommandé le 3 août 2020 depuis la ville de Braga (bureau postal de Loja do Jó), affranchie avec la version EUROPA "Portugal continental" de ce bloc-feuillet !
Le Portugal n'a pas désigné officiellement d'oiseau national même si le coq de Barcelos en céramique est un des emblèmes portugais les plus connus.
As in previous years, three EUROPA stamps (€ 0.86) as well as three souvenir sheets (2 stamps each), designed this year by Nuno Farinha, were issued in 2019 (on May 9, Europe Day) by the Portuguese Post (CTT), two of which including the mentions "Açores" and "Madeira", as usual (as a reminder, these stamps can however be used on the territory of mainland Portugal).
The theme chosen by the PostEurop association for the EUROPA stamps issued in 2019 was devoted to national birds ("aves nacionais" in Portuguese).
Thank you very much Luis for this nice letter sent by registered mail on August 3, 2020 from the city of Braga (Loja do Jó post office), stamped with the EUROPA "mainland Portugal" version of this souvenir sheet!
Portugal has not officially designated a national bird, although the ceramic Rooster of Barcelos is one of the most famous Portuguese emblems.

Situé sur la côte atlantique et à l'extrémité occidentale de l'Europe, le Portugal est traversé chaque année par de nombreuses routes de migration d'oiseaux, entre l'Afrique du Nord et l'Europe du Nord principalement.
Sur chaque bloc-feuillet, CTT a choisi de représenter 2 espèces d'oiseaux, une étant migratrice et l'autre plutôt sédentaire voire endémique.
C'est le cas ci-dessus avec la gorgebleue à miroir (Luscinia svecica), un oiseau migrateur qui hiverne au Portugal principalement dans les zones côtières humides comme l'estuaire du Tage ou de Sado ou dans le parc naturel de la Ria Formosa (Algarve).
L'autre timbre ci-dessus représente un rouge-gorge familier (Erithacus rubecula), un oiseau nicheur commun dans les régions côtières du centre et du nord du pays. A partir de fin septembre, les populations sédentaires sont rejointes par des populations migratrices de toute l'Europe.
Cet oiseau figure également sur le timbre EUROPA émis en 2019 par la poste espagnole en Andorre.
A noter enfin qu'une vingtaine de pays ou territoires émettant des timbres EUROPA cette année, incluant le Portugal, participent au projet "Europa Bird Stamps 2019" consistant à scanner les timbres (via une application gratuite CEE-app) pour écouter le chant des oiseaux.
Located on the Atlantic coast and at the western tip of Europe, Portugal is crossed each year by numerous bird migration routes, mainly between North Africa and Northern Europe.
On each souvenir sheet, CTT chose to represent two species of birds, one being migratory and the other rather sedentary or even endemic.
This is the case above with the bluethroat (Luscinia svecica), a migratory bird that winters in Portugal mainly in wetlands of coastal areas such as the estuaries of Tagus or Sado rivers, or in the Ria Formosa Natural Park (Algarve).
The other stamp above depicts an European robin (Erithacus rubecula), a nesting bird common in the coastal regions of central and northern parts of the country. From the end of September, the sedentary populations are joined by migrating populations from all over Europe.
This bird is also featured on the EUROPA stamp issued in 2019 by the Spanish Post in Andorra.
Finally, to note that about twenty countries or territories issuing EUROPA stamps this year, including Portugal, are participating in the "Europa Bird Stamps 2019" project consisting in scanning the stamps (via a free CEE-Application) to listen to the birds singing.
