"Application for World Heritage" joint stamp on FDC from Andorra (French Post)

Timbre commun "Candidature au Patrimoine mondial" sur FDC d'Andorre

Après 2010 (art roman) et 2019 (25ème anniversaire de l'entrée d'Andorre au Conseil de l'Europe), les administrations postales françaises et espagnoles en Principauté d'Andorre ont mis en circulation, le 5 novembre 2020, un nouveau timbre commun consacré cette fois à la candidature conjointe Andorre-France-Espagne au Patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO, basée sur l'histoire commune des 3 pays et notamment sur le patrimoine seigneurial.
En mars 2019, la présentation de ce projet de candidature transnationale entre les états d'Andorre, d'Espagne et de France, qui regroupe 13 monuments, a été officialisée à la Maison de la Vallée ("Casa de la Vall" en catalan), le siège du pouvoir législatif dans la Principauté d'Andorre.
Construite à la fin du 16ème siècle, cette Maison fortifiée fut acquise en 1702 par le "Conseil de la Terre", l'assemblée formée à partir de 1419 par des représentants des populations des vallées d'Andorre. 
After 2010 (Romanesque art) and 2019 (25th anniversary of Andorra's entry into the Council of Europe), the French and Spanish postal administrations in the Principality of Andorra put into circulation, on November 5, 2020, a new stamp this time devoted to the joint Andorra-France-Spain candidacy for UNESCO World Heritage, based on the common history of the 3 countries and in particular on their seigneurial heritage.
In March 2019, the presentation of this transnational candidacy project between the states of Andorra, Spain and France, which includes 13 monuments, was made official at the House of the Valley ("Casa de la Vall" in Catalan) , the seat of legislative power in the Principality of Andorra.
Built in the late 16th century, this fortified House was acquired in 1702 by the "Council of the Earth", the assembly formed from 1419 by representatives of the people of the valleys of Andorra.

 

La version de la poste française de ce timbre commun (2,32€, tirage : 60000), créé et gravé par Sophie Beaujard, figure sur le pli Premier Jour ci-dessus.
Le blason d'Andorre tel qu'il est sculpté au-dessus de la porte de cette Maison de la Vallée, est représenté sur le TAD Premier Jour ainsi que dans les 4 coins du feuillet (4 timbres) dans lequel ce timbre a été imprimé.
Comme sur l'exemple ci-dessus (partie inférieure du feuillet), ce timbre, représentant la Maison de la Vallée, est flanqué de 2 vignettes consacrées aux 2 biens présentés par la France et l'Espagne pour cette candidature au Patrimoine mondial, respectivement le château de Foix (Ariège) et la cathédrale de la Seu d'Urgell.
Des motifs sont également représentés dans les marges à gauche et à droite, comme cette ancienne gravure du château de Foix et une des tourelles de la Maison de la Vallée ci-dessus.
La Principauté d'Andorre présente 11 sites dans cette candidature : la Maison de la Vallée, la tour des Maures, les rochers d'Enclar et de Margineda ainsi que les églises romanes de Sant Joan de Caselles, Sant Romà de les Bons, Sant Martí de la Cortinada, Sant Climent de Pal, Santa Coloma, Sant Serni de Nagol, Sant Miquel d'Engolasters, Santa Eulàlia et Sant Julià i Sant Germà.

The French Post's version of this joint stamp (€ 2.32, print run: 60,000), designed and engraved by Sophie Beaujard, is present on the First Day cover above.
The coat of arms of Andorra as it is carved above the door of this House of the Valley, is represented on the First Day cancellation as well as in the 4 corners of the sheetlet (4 stamps) in which this stamp was printed.
As in the example above (lower part of the sheetlet), this stamp, representing the House of the Valley, is flanked by 2 labels dedicated to the 2 properties presented by France and Spain for this World Heritage application, respectively the castle of Foix (Ariège) and the cathedral of Seu d'Urgell.
Motifs are also featured in the left and right margins, such as this old engraving of the Château de Foix and one of the turrets of the House of the Valley above.
