"Berlinde De Bruyckere" stamp on FDC from Belgium

Timbre "Berlinde De Bruyckere" sur FDC de Belgique

Après Jef Geys, Luc Tuymans ou Michaël Borremans, la poste belge "bpost" a émis un nouveau timbre, le 26 octobre 2020, consacré à un artiste belge contemporain, à Berlinde De Bruyckere (née en 1964) cette fois, artiste connue pour ses sculptures, ses dessins et ses installations. 
Ce timbre (tarif domestique "1" normalisé NON PRIOR entre 0 et 50g - 1,07€ actuellement à partir de 10 timbres achetés, 1,10€ à l'unité), imprimé dans un feuillet composé de 10 timbres (tirage : 17553 feuillets), figure sur le pli Premier Jour ci-dessous, avec TAD (signature de l'artiste) de Bruxelles. Berlinde De Bruyckere a étudié les arts monumentaux à l'institut Saint-Luc de Gand puis se fait connaître pour ses "hommes couvertures" (corps vulnérables dans un triste état avec couvertures sur la tête), traitant également souvent les corps des chevaux, mais aussi les corps déformés et les arbres. 
After Jef Geys, Luc Tuymans or Michaël Borremans, the Belgian Post "bpost" issued a new stamp, on October 26, 2020, dedicated to a contemporary Belgian artist, to Berlinde De Bruyckere (born in 1964) this time, artist known for her sculptures, drawings and installations.
This stamp (domestic rate"1" normalized NON PRIOR between 0 and 50g - € 1.07 currently from 10 stamps purchased, € 1.10 per unit), printed in a sheetlet consisting of 10 stamps (print run: 17,553 sheetlets), is present on the First Day cover below, with postmarks (artist's signature) from Brussels. Berlinde De Bruyckere studied monumental arts at the Saint-Luc Institute in Ghent then became known for his "blanket men" (vulnerable bodies in a sorry state with blankets on their heads), also often treating the bodies of horses, but also deformed bodies and trees.

 

Les thèmes récurrents de son œuvre sont la vulnérabilité, l'éphémère et la solitude et comportant toujours une dualité, amour et souffrance, menace et protection, vie et mort.
Berlinde De Bruyckere a exposé en particulier lors de la Biennale de Venise en 2003 et 2013 mais l'œuvre à l'honneur sur ce timbre (photographie de Mirjam Devriendt), intitulée "Walburga, 16 novembre '18" a été réalisée dans le cadre de l'exposition "A single bed, A single room" de San Gimignano (Italie) en 2019.
L'image de ce lit revêt pour l'artiste une signification intime puisqu'il s'agit d'une ode à sa mère Walburga, décédée ce 16 novembre 2018. Cette œuvre est composée de branches en cire, imbriquées dans le lit, et de couvertures symbolisant aussi bien la douleur (ou la mort) que la tristesse... 

The recurring themes of her work are vulnerability, ephemeral and loneliness and always involving a duality, love and suffering, threat and protection, life and death.

Berlinde De Bruyckere exhibited in particular during the Venice Biennale in 2003 and 2013 but the work in the spotlight on this stamp (photograph by Mirjam Devriendt), entitled "Walburga, 16 November '18" was produced as part of the exhibition "A single bed, A single room" in San Gimignano, Italy in 2019.

The image of this bed takes on an intimate meaning for the artist since it is an ode to her mother Walburga, who died on November 16, 2018.
