Hors Inde, il semble qu'une centaine d'administrations postales ont émis ou vont mettre en circulation cette année des timbres consacrés au 150ème anniversaire de la naissance de Gandhi, un record !
Parmi ces administrations postales, je pense que la poste française est la seule à avoir émis un timbre gravé, le 7 octobre 2019 (vente générale).
J'adore ce timbre, inspiré d'un portrait souriant du Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948) vers 1940, magnifiquement gravé par Christophe Laborde-Balen.
Sur ce portrait, Gandhi a une marque rouge sur le front, appelée "tilak", symbolisant le troisième œil de Shiva pour les hindous, ce qui est plutôt inhabituel.
Ce timbre (1,30€, tirage : 500016) figure sur le pli Premier Jour ci-dessous, avec TAD Premier Jour de Paris (Carré d'Encre) du 2 octobre 2019. Merci beaucoup Joël !
Outside India, it seems that a hundred postal administrations have issued or will put into circulation this year stamps dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Gandhi, a record!
Among these postal administrations, I think that the French Post is the only one to have issued an engraved stamp, on October 7, 2019 (general sale).
I really love this stamp, inspired by a smiling portrait of Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948) around 1940, beautifully engraved by Christophe Laborde-Balen.
In this portrait, Gandhi has a red mark on the forehead, called "tilaka", symbolizing Shiva's third eye for Hindus, which is rather unusual.

J'aime beaucoup également le TAD Premier Jour montrant Gandhi dans sa tenue traditionnelle appelée dhoti. Cette tenue est souvent associée au Mahatma Gandhi, qui, à partir d'un certain âge, a choisi d'abandonner les vêtements occidentaux, la marque du colonialisme, pour ce vêtement traditionnel de l'Inde.
Des motifs traditionnels indiens sont aussi représentés sur ce TAD, également conçu par Christophe Laborde-Balen, qui a signé sur cette enveloppe !
Le Mahatma Gandhi, né en 1869 à Pordanbar (état du Gujarat), surnommé le "Père de la Nation" en Inde, fut un des pionniers du mouvement d'indépendance du pays, prônant la désobéissance, la non-violence et le concept du "swaraj" (autodétermination). Le 30 janvier 1948, en chemin vers une réunion de prière, Gandhi est assassiné à New Delhi par un hindou nationaliste.
