En mars 1941 à Koufra dans le désert libyen, le général Leclerc prête serment avec ses hommes : "Jurez de ne déposer les armes que lorsque nos couleurs, nos belles couleurs, flotteront sur la cathédrale de Strasbourg".
Ce serment intervient alors que l'Allemagne Nazie exerce une domination totale sur l'Europe...
Le 23 novembre 1944, à 7h15, le général Leclerc (âgé alors de 42 ans) donne l'assaut avec sa 2ème Division Blindée sur la capitale alsacienne.
Cette libération fulgurante restera comme l'un des exploits les plus remarquables, et politiquement l'un des plus importants, de la campagne d'Alsace et de la campagne de France.

This oath was proclaimed while Nazi Germany had a total domination over Europe...
On November 23, 1944, at 7.15 am, General Leclerc (then aged 42) storms with his 2nd Armored Division on the Alsatian capital.
This rapid liberation will remain as one of the most remarkable feats, and politically one of the most important, of the Alsace campaign and the France campaign during this WWII.
A l'occasion du 75ème anniversaire de la libération de Strasbourg, l'association Philapostel Bas-Rhin organisait le 23 novembre 2019 un bureau temporaire avec TAD illustré, dans le bureau postal de Strasbourg Cathédrale.
Ce TAD a été appliqué sur la jolie lettre ci-dessus, affranchie avec un des 2 timbres personnalisés (type IDTimbre, tarif "Lettre Verte 20g", prix de vente : 1,80€ à l'unité) mis en circulation à cette occasion. Merci beaucoup Olivier !
Ce timbre représente le célèbre char "Cherbourg" sur la place Kléber, avec la flèche de la cathédrale de Strasbourg dans le fond.
Ce char, piloté par le maréchal des logis Albert Zimmer, fut touché par un obus allemand à proximité du pont de Kehl et le soldat tué dans sa tourelle le jour de la libération de Strasbourg...
Le char, renommé "Zimmer", est conservé aujourd'hui à proximité du pont de l'Europe pour rendre hommage à ce valeureux soldat.
Malheureusement, une double oblitération a été appliquée sur cette lettre le 25 novembre 2019, lors de son transit dans le CTC d'Holtzheim Strasbourg (24984A)...
On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Strasbourg, the association "Philapostel Bas-Rhin" organized on November 23, 2019 a temporary office with an illustrated postmark, in the post office of Strasbourg Cathédrale.
This postmark was applied to the nice letter above, franked with one of the two personalized stamps (type "IDTimbre", "Green Letter 20g" rate, selling price: € 1.80 per unit) put into circulation on this occasion. Thank you very much Olivier!
