Du 8 au 10 novembre 2019, le Luxembourg organisait à Luxembourg-Kirchberg l'exposition philatélique Multilaterale, une initiative des associations philatéliques de langue allemande (Allemagne, Suisse, Autriche, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg) et des associations philatéliques slovènes et néerlandaises.
La prochaine édition étant organisée en 2021 en Autriche, les 2 pays ont eu la bonne idée de mettre en circulation, le 8 novembre 2019, un très joli bloc-feuillet commun ayant pour thème l'empereur Charles Quint ("Kaiser Karl V" en allemand), 500 ans après qu'il soit devenu Archiduc d'Autriche et empereur du Saint-Empire romain germanique.
La version luxembourgeoise de ce bloc-feuillet (1,05€) figure sur la jolie lettre ci-dessous envoyée le 11 décembre 2019 depuis la ville d'Esch-sur-Alzette. Merci beaucoup Dimitri !
From 8 to 10 November 2019, Luxembourg organized in Luxembourg-Kirchberg the Multilateral philatelic exhibition, an initiative of German-speaking philatelic associations (Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg) with also Slovenian and Dutch philatelic associations.
The next edition being organized in 2021 in Austria, the two countries had the good idea to put into circulation, on November 8, 2019, a very nice joint souvenir sheet having for theme the emperor Charles V ("Kaiser Karl V" in German), 500 years after he became Archduke of Austria and emperor of the Holy Roman Empire.
The Luxembourg version of this souvenir sheet (€ 1.05) was used on the nice letter below sent on December 11, 2019 from the city of Esch-sur-Alzette. Thank you very much Dimitri!
Joh. Enschedé (Pays-Bas) a imprimé les 2 versions de blocs-feuillets, pratiquement identiques, en offset haute définition en quadrichromie et dorure à chaud.
La marge inférieure mentionne une citation en latin de Charles Quint (1500-1558), "Quot linguas calles, tot homines vales" ("Autant tu pratiques de langues, autant tu es humain") ainsi que certains de ses nombreux titres (en allemand), Archiduc d'Autriche (1519-1521), duc du Luxembourg (1516-1555), empereur du Saint-Empire romain germanique (1519-1556).
Les drapeaux des 7 pays participant à cette Multilaterale sont enfin présents en bas à droite sur ce bloc-feuillet, reproduisant un portrait intitulé "L'Empereur Charles Quint avec un molosse" (1532) par le peintre autrichien Jakob Seisenegger (1505-1567), exposé dans le musée d'Histoire de l'art de Vienne.
Issu de la dynastie des Habsbourg, Charles Quint fut l'un des plus puissants dirigeants de l'histoire européenne. En tant qu'empereur du Saint-Empire romain germanique, il régna sur des territoires en Europe et en Amérique et dut faire face, entre autres, aux conflits religieux entre catholiques et protestants et à une rivalité avec le roi de France, François Ier.
Joh. Enschedé (Netherlands) printed the two versions of souvenir sheets, almost identical, in multicoloured high-resolution offset and gold plating.
The lower margin mentions a quote in Latin by Charles V (1500-1558), "Quot linguas calles, tot homines vales" ("As many languages as you know, so many separate individuals you are worth") as well as some of his many titles (in German), Archduke of Austria (1519-1521), Duke of Luxembourg (1516-1555), Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire (1519-1556).
The flags of the 7 countries participating in this Multilaterale are finally present at the bottom right on this souvenir sheet, reproducing a portrait entitled "Emperor Charles V with Hound" (1532) by the Austrian painter Jakob Seisenegger (1505-1567), exhibited in the Vienna Museum of Art History.
Member of the Habsburg dynasty, Charles V was one of the most powerful leaders in European history. As emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, he reigned over territories in Europe and America and had to face, among other things, religious conflicts between Catholics and Protestants and a rivalry with the king of France, Francis I.
