Je rentre tout juste d'un déplacement à Mâcon (70 km au nord de Lyon) où a lieu cette année, du 27 au 29 mars, le "Salon Philatélique de Printemps".
J'en ai profité pour visiter cette ville qui vaut vraiment le détour ! J'en reparlerai très prochainement sur ce blog :-)
L'émission "1er jour" du bloc-feuillet français consacré à la protection des pôles avait lieu aujourd'hui lors de ce même Salon.
Le très joli FDC de Finlande ci-dessous, émis le 18 mars 2009, me permet d'évoquer ce thème aujourd'hui.

I just come back from a trip to the town of Mâcon (70 km north of Lyon), where takes place this year from 27th to 29th of March, the "Salon Philatélique de Printemps" ("Spring Stamp Exhibition").
I took the opportunity to visit this very interesting city ! I will speak about very soon on this blog :-)
The First Day of issue of the French souvenir sheet devoted to the protection of the poles was held today during this same Stamp Exhibition.
The very nice FDC from Finland below, issued on 18th of March 2009, allows me to discuss this topic today.

"Nos deux pays possèdent des milieux naturels fragiles et vulnérables à proximité des pôles. Ces régions sont parmi les premières régions à connaître l'impact du changement climatique. Je pense personnellement que nous devons intensifier notre coopération afin de protéger les régions polaires et contribuer activement à l'échelle mondiale pour lutter contre le changement climatique".
Voici ce que déclarait le 29 mai 2007 Tarja Halonen, la présidente finlandaise, lors du dîner d'état en l'honneur de Michelle Bachelet, présidente du Chili, alors en visite officielle en Finlande.
Les deux administrations postales de Finlande et du Chili furent alors à l'origine du lancement de timbres ayant pour thème commun "Protégeons les régions polaires et les glaciers" afin de sensibiliser le plus grand nombre à la préservation de ces milieux essentiels sur terre, menacés par l'augmentation des températures...
Le 18 mars 2009, les 2 pays ont ainsi émis chacun un bloc-feuillet de 2 timbres. Le bloc finlandais ci-dessus est constitué de 2 timbres ronds avec, en fond, une photo de la banquise.
Le graphiste finlandais Saku Heinänen, créateur de ce bloc, a également conçu le symbole du cristal de glace, que l'on retrouve sur les timbres (ou dans les marges des feuilles ou des blocs) de la quarantaine de pays participant à cette campagne.
J'aime beaucoup ce bloc qui résume très bien les effets négatifs du changement climatique : hausse des températures sur l'échelle à gauche et hausse du niveau des mers à droite. L'oblitération "1er jour", qui reprend ce même cristal, s'insère parfaitement au milieu de ce bloc entre les 2 timbres ronds. Beau travail pour une bonne cause !
"Both our countries have fragile and vulnerable natural environments close to the Poles. These regions are among the first areas to experience the impact of climate change. I personally feel that we should intensify our cooperation to protect the polar areas and to contribute actively to global work for combating climate change".
Here's what stated on 29th of May 2007 Tarja Halonen, the Finnish President, at the state banquet in honor of Michelle Bachelet, President of Chile, during her official visit to Finland.
Both postal administrations of Finland and Chile were then behind the launch of stamps with the common "Preserve the Polar Regions and Glaciers" topic to increase public awareness of the preservation of these essential environments on earth, threatened by rising temperatures...
On 18th of March 2009, the two countries have issued each a souvenir sheet of two stamps. The Finnish sheet above consists of two round-shaped stamps with a picture of ice floe in the background.
The Finnish graphic designer Saku Heinänen, creator of this sheet, has also designed the ice crystal insignia, which is included on the stamps (or in the margins of sheets or miniature sheets) of the about forty countries participating in this campaign.
I love this Finnish sheet which summarizes very well the negative effects of climate change : rising temperatures on the left scale and rising sea levels on the right.
The FDC cancellation, which incorporates this same crystal, fits perfectly in the middle of this sheet between the two round stamps. A really good job for a good cause !
